Why the heck should I eat mushrooms? π
Weird thing I learned this week. If you look at genetics. Humanβs are more closely related to mushrooms than we are to plants. Makes you pause for a moment when you also realize mushrooms have a meaty texture. π€
For those who may not be familiar with oyster mushrooms, they are a type of edible mushroom with a delicate, mild flavor and a soft, meaty texture. They are a good source of protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, including vitamins B and D, potassium, and selenium.
Another weird fact about mushrooms, if you put harvested product into the sun upside down they will suck up a TON more vitamin D. Goodbye seasonal depression. βοΈπ
But the benefits of oyster mushrooms don’t stop there. Here are just a few of the many reasons why you should consider adding them to your diet π
Oyster mushrooms have been shown to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which can help protect against chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer.
- They are also a good source of chitin, a type of fiber that has been shown to promote healthy gut bacteria and improve digestion.π
- Oyster mushrooms are low in calories and fat, making them a great option for those looking to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight. ποΈ
- They are also a sustainable and environmentally-friendly food source, as they can be grown on a variety of substrates including coffee grounds and straw. We have them in grain and wood. β
Mushrooms that we have in the store arenβt foreign foods. They actually grow out in the wild here! Thing is they look a little different when they age compared to what we harvest. π²π³
The mid-west and probably most of the country really didnβt have a lot of amazing mushrooms available until more recently, which is incredible given the amazing nutrition mushrooms give to us. πΊοΈ
