Hello there!π
I am writing to you from my home in downtown Lemont, just a minute away from the farm. I love writing this letter with early morning coffee, soft music, my microgreens smoothie and doggo πΆ hanging out with me. Cait just finished her coffee and left to go take care of the farm.
This is the Spira Farms newsletter. Where green during the holidays doesnβt only mean cash.ππ
Today we are going to talk about:
- The season of giving π₯ππ«
- The basiliest basil of all the basil π₯¬
The Season of Giving π π₯ππ«
Suddenly Thanksgiving is behind us again, and now we are all just a little bit more jolly (and jellier?).
To kick off the festivities of December, we are now offering a Refer-A-Friend program. You and your friends can give and get the greens, and we mean both π²π² and π±π±. If your friend makes an order, they get $15, and you get $15 on your Spira Farms account.
BASSSILLL ππ£
ITS HERE!
I talk about it a lot. Microgreen Basil is one of the most flavorful plants that we can grow. It is truly the basiliest basil of all of the basils.
Who here eats basil for its nutrition? Nobody raises their handsβ¦ π€¦ββοΈ
I donβt talk much about the nutritional benefits of basil because its not often the reason we eat the plant. It just tastes amazing, and really makes the dishes pop. It is definitely something worth trying, especially side by side with the adult basil plant. Youβll immediately see the difference in flavor strength favoring microgreens.
Basil is rich in antioxidants, which of course is helpful in fighting and preventing cancers. It also has a plethora of vitamins and minerals, some of the most notable are vitamin A, K, and Magnesium. Is the plant going to beat out broccoli in terms of its anti-inflammatories? No. BUT, it has an incredible taste and if it gets you eating more plants and taking in more anti-oxidants that too is a win. π
